My first blog on creativity and I swear I have writer's block! I mean really brain, can you try not to publicly mock me?

Maybe that's the topic right there... the creative brain. Yeah, that sounds interesting. I believe that everyone has a bit of creativity in them, some more than others of course, but everyone has a little spark. It starts with imagination when you're a kid. Whether you believe there are monsters under your bed--or you make milk weed boats to send sailing down an irrigation ditch on a grand adventure, you are imagining. That's creativity!

People like to make the distinction between right-brain and left-brain. I think most people use that as an excuse to say, "I can't draw-I'm left-brained." or "I can't do math-I'm right-brained." But honestly, it comes down to imagination. I think some people just forgot where they put theirs. Let's help them find it!

This blog will have a lot of topics, from my work and artistic process to other artists and their work. We'll talk a lot about different materials and even the difference between "art" and "craft". We'll also do some projects. I'm excited about helping people find their imaginations--I think you left yours behind the couch, by the way. And remember, no one is grading you, we're gonna have fun!

Oh, and I almost forgot, it took me a long time to comfortably declare to the room that I was an "artist". It's a big word. It's a lot of responsibility. I think you should have to earn it by working at it just as you would by studying to be a doctor or a rocket scientist.

So, I decided to call the blog Lorinardo. Trust me, it's not because I think I'm as good as Leonardo, but I have a couple small things in common with him (at least what I've read about him). He was a little odd. His brain went a mile a minute which made him question and experiment and invent. He had a hard time ever finishing anything and he imagined. Plus, the word makes me chuckle, so there's that. I'll try and keep these entries short and I'll tell you what, if you want to learn about something or start a discussion, post a comment, I'll do my best to write about it!
